Operating Instructions

Pre-Installation & ESD Handling

Electrostatic Protection: Always wear a grounded ESD wrist strap before touching the motherboard or memory modules.

Backplane Insertion: Align the NuPRO-598 REV A1 with the guide rails of a PICMG 1.0 compliant passive backplane. Press firmly until the golden finger connectors seat completely into the PCI/ISA slots.

Power Connection: Verify that the backplane ATX or AT power supply wiring harness provides stable +3.3V, +5V, +12V, and -12V DC power lines.

Initial Configuration & System Boot

BIOS Access: Connect a PS/2 or USB keyboard and VGA display monitor. Power on the system and press the Del or F2 key during POST to enter the Award/AMI BIOS setup utility.

Storage Mode Setting: Set SATA mode to IDE or AHCI depending on whether your operating system is legacy (Windows XP/WES2009) or modern (Windows 7/10/Linux).

Watchdog Timer Configuration: Enable the onboard hardware watchdog timer in BIOS or via system software API to trigger an automatic reboot if the OS crashes.

Fault Diagnosis

Warning: Before performing hardware diagnostics, disconnect primary AC power from the industrial chassis enclosure.

Symptom / Fault Possible Root Cause Diagnostic & Corrective Action
System does not boot (No POST, Fans don’t spin) Power supply failure or poor PICMG backplane seating Check backplane DC power voltages. Unseat and firmly re-seat the SBC in the PICMG slot.
Continuous Beeping during POST Memory initialization failure Remove DDR2 RAM modules, clean contact pins with isopropyl alcohol, and test one module at a time.
System freezes or reboots under heavy load CPU overheating or thermal paste degradation Inspect CPU fan operation. Clean heatsink dust and replace thermal compound on the processor socket.
Ethernet LEDs remain OFF when cable connected Driver mismatch or port speed negotiation issue Verify link LEDs on RJ-45 jack. Check BIOS for disabled onboard LAN controllers; update network drivers in OS.
Watchdog Timer triggers constant reboots Software loop timeout or unhandled exception Check application log files; ensure watchdog heartbeat pulse is periodically cleared by system control software.
