HIMA K9212 Module Overview

HIMA K9212 Module Overview

The HIMA K9212 is a specialized axial fan module designed for the selective ventilation of high-power dissipation modules within HIMA HIQuad (H41q and H51q) safety-related automation systems.

Unlike standard industrial fans, the K9212 is an engineered component of the subrack assembly, ensuring that critical CPUs and I/O modules remain within safe thermal operating limits to prevent hardware failure in safety-instrumented systems (SIS).

Product Advantages and Features

Selective Cooling: Specifically targets “hot spots” in central subracks where high-density processing occurs.

High Reliability: Rated for long-term continuous operation (7.5+ years of 24/7 run-time) to match the lifespan of safety systems.

Integrated Monitoring: Features an electrical output to the Z 6018 Monitoring Unit, which triggers a system alarm if the fan speed drops or the unit fails.

Modular Scalability: Up to four K9212 units can be installed side-by-side in a single subrack profile.

Tool-less Installation: Uses a snap-in mechanism for rapid replacement during maintenance windows.

Application Cases

Safety Instrument Systems (SIS): Ensuring thermal stability for H51q CPUs in Emergency Shutdown (ESD) applications.

High-Density I/O Racks: Cooling subracks packed with analog and digital modules that generate significant heat during high-frequency switching.

Oil & Gas Refineries: Used in control rooms where safety systems must operate without interruption in localized high-temperature environments.

Unique Product Description

The HIMA K9212 is the “silent guardian” of the HIQuad system. While the CPU handles the logic, the K9212 handles the physics.

It is unique because it is not just a peripheral; it is a safety-monitored accessory. If the fan stops, the safety system knows instantly via the Z 6018 unit, allowing for proactive maintenance before thermal stress can compromise the system’s SIL (Safety Integrity Level) rating.

Other Models in the Same Series

K 9202: Cabinet fan unit equipped with two axial fans and run monitoring.

K 9203: Insert fan unit with three axial fans for larger rack configurations.

Z 6018: The companion fan run monitoring and fuse monitoring module.

K 7212: Redundant power distribution module often used in the same H41q/H51q racks.

Installation and Maintenance

Mounting: Snap the module into the subrack’s profiles. If gaps remain between fans, use HIMA perforated plates (Part no. 605290006/7) to ensure proper airflow direction.

Electrical: Connect the fan leads to the designated monitoring bus. Ensure the 24V DC supply is filtered and stable.

Maintenance: Perform a functional test annually. Check for dust accumulation on the blades, as this reduces the 80 m³/h flow rate.

Replacement: To replace, simply unclip the unit from the rack. Because it is a modular fan, replacement can typically be done while the system is live, provided the ambient temperature is monitored.
