Kollmorgen Digital servo driver SERVOSTAR 310

The Kollmorgen SERVOSTAR 310 (often stylized as S310) is a digital servo drive from the S300 series.

It is a compact, high-performance amplifier designed to drive brushless synchronous servo motors, as well as asynchronous and DC motors.

While the S300 series is largely considered a legacy product, it is still widely supported in the second-hand and repair markets due to its reliability in precision automation.

Technical Specifications

The “310” model is the most powerful variant in the 230V class of the S300 family.

Key Features

Onboard Communication: Comes standard with EtherCAT and CANopen interfaces. It also supports RS232 for parameter tuning via PC.

Integrated Safety: Features STO (Safe Torque Off), which allows for a “personnel-safe” restart lock without disconnecting the main power supply.

Motion Control: Includes a built-in position controller with memory for up to 300 intelligent positioning tasks (including speed profiles and registration control).

Slot Expansion: Contains one slot for expansion cards (e.g., Profibus DP, DeviceNet, or additional I/O).

Common Fault Codes (LED Display)

If your drive is showing a code on the 3-character display, here are the most common meanings:

F01: Heat sink temperature too high (check cooling/fans).

F02: Overvoltage (DC bus exceeded 450V).

F04: Feedback fault (check motor cables or resolver connection).

F05: Undervoltage (input power is missing or too low).

Modern Replacement

If your S310 has failed and you cannot find a direct replacement, the current upgrade path is the AKD series (specifically the AKD-P01206).

Note: Upgrading to an AKD drive will require a new configuration file and likely a change in the physical mounting and wiring connectors.
